Hello everyone this is my first post. so im thinking about getting a jeep GC, preferably the models with the 4.7 HO but i have some concerns about the 4.7 V8. I have heard of several issues like thin cylinder walls, sludge and cracking heads. For 1 mpg Ill take a 4.7 anyday, not to mention you get a much better tranny in the 545RFE, alot more power, and the 4.7 is alot easier to work on IMO. Im tired of changing crank sensors on the 4.0. The 4.0 weighs more as well. The 4.0 might run forever but its a very old and not very efficient design. The jeep will slow the fan when stepping on the throttle bring it up to 3,000rpm then return to a higher speed when you let the engine idle again. This seems like a normal thing for the system to do but unsure currently) Got a reman motor 20,000 miles ago/4.5 years ago.~ Also this jeep just had 2 grand dumped into it. I've had a persistent but intermittent minor oil lead around the oil filter area for years. Some oil changes had leaks and some did not. The leak was minor but very annoying. They may be completely devalued, but that’s just a bonus for builders. I’ve literally found complete, running donors for $600-$1000. I had an 01' 4.7 Durango and Fastman upgraded my 65mm TB to 68mm, also had HO Intake & Cams and K&N Intake installed, along with StupidchipsMild but nice improvement in performance. No engine bay mods, same motor mounts, same wiring harness and no hacking up the trans tunnel. Yea, it'd be cool but not worth it IMO. Anyone know a source to buy a set of new connecting rods,stock or aftermarket, for a 4.7 V8? The dealer only sells them with the piston and rings installed for well over $100 a piece. I bought a set of forged ross pistons so I dont need the pistons. WJ Power Steering Pressure Hose write-up. Hoping this helps someone down the road, as this leak above the pump seems to be a common issue. I recently replaced my power steering pressure hose on my JGC 4.7 HO, it's simple and not simple at the same time. Am trying to find a WJ to tow behind the motor home with all four wheels on the ground. A couple of "guides" say, for example, that the 2004 Grand Cherokee is towable with all four wheels on the ground. Little distinction is offered between QuadraTrac and QuadraDrive. .
